Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of using natural therapies to support the body’s ability to heal itself. It focuses on the prevention of illnesses by treating the root cause of disease.”

Treatment plans are individualized and developed based on individual needs. It encompasses therapies such as acupuncture, botanical medicine, dietary counselling, homeopathy, and lifestyle counselling.

Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

LavenderTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic medical system which aims to restore and maintain health by achieving harmony within the body. It encompasses the use of acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, herbal medicine, diet therapy, and other energetic exercises.

Acupuncture is one of the most practiced modality within TCM. The practice of acupuncture has been around for over two thousand years and has proven to be very effective especially for pain relief and chronic illness.

Botanical Medicine

Botanical medicine, also called herbal medicine, involves the use of plants for medicinal purposes. It may take the form of teas, tinctures, ointments, essential oils, or supplements.  Even though botanical medicine consists of the use of natural substances, it may not always be safe since it can potentially interact with prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals.

Naturopathic doctors are extensively trained to provide guidance in safe and effective usage of botanical medicine. Naturopathic doctors are currently the only health care providers in Canada to be regulated for the use of botanical medicine.

Clinical Nutrition

Nutrition and the therapeutic use of foods is a cornerstone of naturopathic medicine. Food intolerances, dietary imbalances, nutritional deficiencies or excesses have been associated with many medical conditions. Naturopathic doctors are trained to provide guidance on appropriate dietary modification in order to improve health outcomes.

Physical Medicine

Physical medicine offers treatment for many different health concerns. Treatments can include soft tissue, hydrotherapy techniques, and exercise therapy.

Homeopathy is a form of holistic medicine based on the principle of “like cures like”, which means that a disease can be treated by a substance that produce the same symptoms in healthy individuals. Remedies are made from specific dilutions of plant, animal and mineral substances. It can be used to treat acute and chronic conditions.
