Acupuncture North York

It is used to treat a variety of health conditions from musculoskeletal pain to digestive concerns.

Based on the theories of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), illness occurs when there is an imbalance or blockage in the flow of “Qi”, or the vital force, within your body.

Acupuncture is a treatment that involves the insertion of very fine needles to specific points on the body in order to stimulate your body’s innate healing power to restore the balance within its energy flow.”

It is used to treat a variety of health conditions from musculoskeletal pain to digestive concerns. Most treatments last for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the condition that is being treated.

In addition to acupuncture, there are methods that can help restore the energy balance within the body without the use of needles. Cupping and moxibustion are gentle and non-invasive methods that can provide stimulation to acupuncture points. Cupping involves the application of suction, while moxibustion involves the application of heat over acupuncture points. It is safe to use for people of all ages, from children to elderly.

What does acupuncture feel like?

You may feel a slight pressure from the needle as it is being inserted. Most people find that it does not hurt; however, you may feel mild discomfort such as soreness and tingling, when the needles reaches a certain depth.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients require 8-12 sessions as a course of treatment; however, the length of the treatment can vary depending on your health condition. You can typically expect changes within 4-6 treatments. Acute conditions will improve more rapidly, while chronic conditions will take a longer period of time before change can be noticed.

For acute conditions, it is recommended for patients to come in for 2-3 treatments per week to achieve optimal results. For chronic conditions, it is recommended for patients to come in for 1 session weekly.

How can I expect during my first visit?

The first session usually takes around 1 hour. An assessment of your health condition based on your symptoms and your health history will be performed, followed by an acupuncture treatment.
